> \[Udumbara\]: Translated here as "auspicious omen." The Mahāparinirvāṇa Sūtra states: "In Jambudvīpa there is an exalted king of trees named udumbara, which bears fruit without flowers. If an udumbara tree bears golden flowers, only then does a Buddha appear in the world." The Prajñaptiśāstra says: "Circling Jambudvīpa there is a road for the wheel-turning king, one yojana wide. When there is no wheel-turning king, it is covered by the ocean waters, and no one can see it. If a wheel-turning king appears in the world, the ocean water recedes by one yojana, and this road for the wheel-turning king then appears, completely strewn with golden sand, adorned with various gems, and sprinkled with candana-scented water. When the wheel-turning sage king tours the continents and islands, travelling along this road together with his fourfold army, this flower then blooms." The new transcription is wudanboluo (udumbara).
