> \[Kanyākubja\] The \*Xiyu ji\* says: “In the language of the Tang it is called City of the Humpbacked Women, in the territory of Central India. A great-tree ṛṣi, resting his spirit, entered meditative absorption for several tens of thousands of years. Arising from absorption, he saw the king's hundred daughters who had come to the palace to invite him. Only the youngest daughter was sent to serve him. The ṛṣi harbored anger, and immediately spoke a malicious curse: 'May the ninety-nine daughters have their waists bent at once!' From then on, it was called the City of the Humpbacked Women.”
