> \[Vatsa\] (translates as "calf"); \[putra\] (translates as "son"). In ancient times there was an immortal who consorted with a calf and gave birth to a son; from then on the lineage was called Vātsīputrīya. This school posits a self that is neither identical to the aggregates nor separate from the aggregates, yet is a real self. Its vinaya text did not come \[to China\]. The Daji jing says: "They all state that there is a self, and do not speak of the mark of emptiness, like small children; therefore they are named Vātsīputrīya."
