> 【Paramārtha】In Qin, 'supreme truth'. The Large Prajñāpāramitā Sūtra states: "The letter-gate pa: because all dharmas are the supreme truth." The Laṅkāvatāra Sūtra states: "It is called the noble bliss of supreme truth; that which is entered through speech is the supreme truth, not that speech itself is the supreme truth. The supreme truth is what is attained through the self-realization of noble wisdom; it is not the realm of speech, conceptual proliferation, or cognition. Therefore, speech and conceptual proliferation do not display the supreme truth. Speech undergoes arising and cessation, fluctuation, and arises from mutually dependent causes and conditions. If it arises from mutually dependent causes and conditions, it does not display the supreme truth." It also says: "Just as when pointing at an object with a finger for a foolish person, the foolish person looks at the finger and fails to grasp the real object; in this way, foolish people follow the finger of speech, grasping and clinging to it, never relinquishing it to the end, and are ultimately unable to attain the supreme real meaning that is detached from the finger of speech." The Mahāsaṃnipāta Sūtra states: "The profound principle cannot be spoken; the supreme truth lacks sound and letters." In the Avataṃsaka Sūtra, chanting the letter-gate pa is named 'universally illuminating the dharmadhātu'. The Commentary states: "All dharmas are entirely equal; this is 'universally illuminating the dharmadhātu'."
