【卍】《熏聞》曰：「志諴《纂要》云：『梵云室利靺瑳。此云吉祥海雲。如來胸臆有大人相，形如𭮐字，名吉祥海雲。』」《華嚴音義》云：「案卍字，本非是字。大周長壽二年，主上權制此文，著於天樞，音之為萬，謂吉祥萬德之所集也。經中上下，據漢本總一十七字，同呼為萬。依梵文，有二十八相（云云）。」

> 【卍】 The Xunwen states: "Zhichen's Zuanyao says: 'The Sanskrit calls it śrīvatsa. Here it is translated as "auspicious ocean cloud". On the Tathāgata's chest is a mark of a great man, shaped like the character 𭮐, called the auspicious ocean cloud.'" The Huayan yinyi says: "Upon examination, the character 卍 was originally not a character. In the second year of the Changshou reign of the Great Zhou, the Sovereign provisionally instituted this graph and placed it upon the Celestial Pivot, pronouncing it wan, meaning the gathering of ten thousand auspicious virtues. Throughout the sūtras, based on the Chinese recensions, there are seventeen characters in all that are uniformly pronounced wan. According to the Sanskrit text, there are twenty-eight marks (and so forth)."
