> Namo to all Buddhas—Buddhas of the past, future, and present—as well as to the illumination of all dharmas. (This is the Indian formula for paying homage to Prajñā. "Illumination" means wisdom. In foreign lands there are four kinds of salutations: first, jieya; second, boluonan; third, ponan; fourth, namo. Namo means bending the body; it is kneeling. These four bows are salutations used commonly for the Buddha, non-Buddhists, rulers of countries, and parents alike. Paying homage to parents is called namo sajia; sajia means offering.)
