> Furthermore, Shi Daojiong of Fufeng went with four companions on his master's behalf into Mount Huo in Henan to gather stalactites. Having entered the cave for several miles, three persons drowned, and the torches went out. Daojiong had always recited the Saddharmapuṇḍarīka-sūtra; relying on his sincerity, he begged for deliverance. After a moment, he saw a firefly and followed it, thereby managing to exit the cave. He frequently practiced the circumambulation rites of Samantabhadra, repeatedly seeing sympathetic responses: at times he saw a Western monk enter and sit, or he saw a person riding a horse arrive, who vanished in an instant before words could be exchanged. Later, he traveled to the Song capital and took the pratyutpanna-samādhi as his practice. Entering meditation in the middle of the night, he saw four men driving a carriage, calling for Daojiong to board. Without realizing it, he was already on a great road. He saw a person sitting on a folding chair with several hundred attendants. Seeing Daojiong, the person stood up in alarm and said: 'I only ordered that your location be ascertained; why have you suddenly been troubled to bend your steps, Dharma Master?' Thereupon he bowed in farewell and ordered that he be escorted back to the monastery. Only when he knocked on the monastery gate was it opened, and the door of his chamber was also closed. Everyone revered him with submission.
