> Furthermore, south of the capital suburbs, on the north bank of the Fu River, there was Shi Village. Shi Hexi chanted the Saddharmapuṇḍarīka-sūtra while holding the title of clerk. Traveling back and forth, he went on foot and never rode horses or carriages throughout his life, because he relied on the sūtra's words to take pity on all beings. Falling ill, he died in his home district; a fragrance filled the village, and everyone marveled, unable to fathom the cause. Ten years after his death, his wife also died. They opened the tomb to bury them together and saw that the root of his tongue was as if alive, while the rest of the flesh had all decayed. They then collected it for a separate burial. Such followers are numerous; the rest are omitted for now.
