In the Daye era of the Sui, he first constructed a stone chamber, carving on its four sides; he also took square stones to copy various canonical scriptures. Whenever a chamber was full, it was sealed with stones and iron was melted to seal the seams. Public and private figures from near and far all sent offerings. Once artisans had assembled, they wished to build a Buddha hall and dining courtyard, but east of the mountains no timber could be obtained. Suddenly, one night of violent rain, thunder shook and mountains collapsed; in the clear dawn, they saw thousands of large pines and cypresses washed down and accumulated beside the road. Following the traces, they had been sent from far in the Western Mountains; this was divine aid. They immediately built according to plan, and soon it was finished. The stone sūtras produced already filled seven chambers.
