> "'When the kalpa-fire reaches its end, heaven and earth burn through and through;
> Mount Sumeru and the vast oceans
> are entirely reduced to ashes;
> when the merit of gods and dragons is exhausted,
> they wither and perish therein.
> Even the two primal forces perish—
> how could a kingdom be permanent?
> Birth, old age, sickness, and death
> revolve without limit;
> affairs run contrary to one's desires;
> sorrow and grief cause harm.
> Desires are deep and calamities heavy,
> boils and sores without exception;
> the three realms are entirely suffering—
> what reliance is there in a kingdom?
> Being is fundamentally non-being;
> causes and conditions bring about all things.
> What flourishes must decline;
> what is substantial must become empty.
> Sentient beings, crawling and swarming,
> are all like dwellers in an illusion;
> sounds and echoes are both empty,
> and the lands of the state are likewise so.
> The conscious spirit has no physical form,
> provisionally riding upon four serpents;
> it takes the precious elephant of ignorance
> to be a pleasure chariot.
> The body has no permanent master;
> the spirit has no constant home.
> If body and spirit still separate,
> how could a kingdom remain?'"
