Yet, according to the abode of serving and attending upon the Tathāgata, Subhūti answered that one should not see \[the Tathāgata\] by marks; why is this answer different from the earlier one? Answer: The Sanskrit texts had differences, but the meaning is without contradiction. Why so? The earlier one was an answer according to the real principle, whereas this is a provisional answer to bring out and reveal the Tathāgata's true and subtle meaning. Moreover, the principle is twofold: first, conventional; second, ultimate. Although the ultimate is without marks, within conventional truth one can clearly observe the Tathāgata by the thirty-two marks.
