> Sūtra: Subhūti, in whatever place, up to and scatter flowers upon that place. Exposition: Fourth, offerings by devas and others. The treatise states: "Because within it they make offerings, revere, pay homage to, and circumambulate it to the right with flower garlands and so forth, it is called a caitya." The intention in adducing this is: the place of preaching and listening is already to be honored by others, so how much more must the person who upholds the sūtra accomplish superior virtue! This is the sixth line of that treatise: "honoring the virtue and merit of the person." Its commentary states: "'Making offerings in whatever place': one should know that this person will certainly accomplish immeasurable merit."
