> Sūtra: "What is the reason?"
>
> Commentary: Below is the further questioning and explanation. Within it are two parts: first the further questioning, and later the further explanation. This is the first. This has two meanings. The intent of the previous questioning was: for what reason can it not be attained or expounded? And the sūtra replied: because what Dharma is expounded relies on that inner realization, which can neither be grasped nor expounded as dharma or non-dharma. Therefore, the question is now raised further: why is it that this expounded Dharma is like this? Furthermore, what was questioned earlier was having no attainment and no expounding, yet it only answered, "what the Tathāgata expounded," without speaking of what was attained. What is the reason for this?
