"Receiving and upholding": "receiving" means accepting through hearing; "upholding" means maintaining without forgetting. One who receives and upholds causes oneself to become a Buddha; one who explains it to others causes others to become Buddhas. Benefiting oneself and benefiting others are both the work of bodhi.
