They uphold the five precepts, the eight precepts, and the rules of the fast, without committing the five heinous crimes or having various faults. Dedicating these wholesome roots, they vow to be reborn in the Western Sukhavatī realm. When their life draws to a close, Amitābha, surrounded by an assembly of monks, emits golden light and comes before that person, expounding suffering, emptiness, impermanence, and non-self, and praising how leaving the home life frees one from all suffering. Upon seeing this, that person is filled with great joy. They see themselves seated on a lotus dais, kneeling on both knees with joined palms to pay homage to the Buddha. In the time it takes to raise one's head, they immediately attain rebirth in that land. The lotus flower soon opens, and hearing various sounds praising the four noble truths, they straightaway attain the arhat path, endowed with the three knowledges, the six supernormal knowledges, and the eight liberations.
