> "Devas and humans attained the path, which served as proof; / Thereupon the Three Jewels appeared in the world." These two \[lines\] clarify the accomplishment of the work. Sengzhao says: "When the Dharma wheel was first turned, the five men including Kauṇḍinya and eighty thousand devas attained the path. This was the clear proof of constant purity. The path of awakening having been accomplished was the Buddha Jewel; the Dharma wheel having been turned was the Dharma Jewel; the five men leaving the household life and attaining the path was the Saṅgha Jewel. 'Thereupon' speaks of their beginning." The five men are Kauṇḍinya, Mahānāma, Aśvajit, Vāṣpa, and Bhadrika.
