> "The mind of dedication is the bodhisattva's pure land. When the bodhisattva attains Buddhahood, he obtains a land endowed with all merits." \[Daoye says:\] "To dedicate one's own merit is to bestow it universally upon sentient beings, directing them collectively toward bodhi without dwelling in any other fruition; this is the Mahāsattva's dedication. Furthermore, wholesome actions such as giving bring about rewards among humans and gods; if one can dedicate them, all will reach bodhi together, so this dedication brings great benefit. Furthermore, phenomenal actions are mundane goods, whereas the principle is bodhi; if one can awaken to the principle within phenomenal actions, this is true dedication. Hence the text below states: 'The nature of giving is itself the nature of dedication to all-knowledge'—does it not mean this? Moreover, when one dedicates toward bodhi, what merit is not fully possessed?"
