The Great and Lesser Vehicles each have two kinds of benefits, deep and shallow; here, it is the deep awakening to non-arising. The 'Life Span' chapter of the Lotus Sūtra explains long life through the short life at Gayā; awakening to the dharmakāya being neither long nor short also brings awakening to the forbearance of non-arising.
