> "'The mind abiding neither within nor without: this is quiet meditation.'" Fourth, reprimanding the fault of the mind abiding within or without. When the mind arises, the marks of inside and outside arise; when the mind is quiescent, the marks of inside and outside cease. This is taking non-abiding as abiding. \[Seng\]zhao said: "The body is an illusory dwelling; how could one abide within? The ten thousand things are empty; how could one be without? The Hīnayāna guards against thoughts, hence it ties the mind within; ordinary beings seek much, hence they gallop their thoughts without. The mahāsattva views them equally, hence there is no reliance inside or outside."
