> Precept Thirty-Six: Urging One Who Has Eaten to Satisfaction.
>
> The intention of the precept is: Those who have gone forth ought, in principle, to benefit sentient beings, mutually guide one another, and encourage the cultivation of all wholesome deeds. Now, out of an evil mind, urging another person so as to make him incur an offense while bringing blame upon oneself harms both others and oneself, which is contrary to reason; therefore the sage instituted it.
>
> There are five specific conditions: 1. The other has finished eating to satisfaction. 2. Knowing the other has eaten to satisfaction. 3. Urging him with an evil mind, wishing to make him offend. 4. The procedure for leftover food was not performed. 5. Committing \[the offense\] as soon as the other person eats. Below, the Prātimokṣa text is properly clarified. This precept arose because two brothers were monks together: one was greedy and gluttonous, fond of food, not knowing satisfaction in food, whether leftover or not leftover, taking and eating whatever he obtained. Because the other scolded him, this one harbored resentment; seeing that the other had already eaten, he forcefully urged him to eat with an evil mind; thus the Buddha instituted this precept.
