The precept on arranging with a bhikṣuṇī to board a boat together, the twenty-eighth. The fault of public criticism is the same as before, with a boat being the specific distinction. There are six specific conditions: first, she is of the three assemblies of female renunciants; second, making a mutual arrangement; third, boarding the same boat together, excluding separate boats which do not incur an offense under this precept; fourth, with the intention of traveling upstream or downstream, excluding crossing directly across where the ferry loses its crossing, which incurs no offense; fifth, having no justifying cause, excluding perils to life, physical constraint, or the other shore being unsafe; sixth, stepping into the boat with both feet immediately incurs an offense. Below is the proper explanation of the Prātimokṣa text. The origin of this precept is as before.
