Previously, receiving was prohibited; now, giving is prohibited. A monk came out from a place where robes were not distributed; the nun Sthūlanandā saw him, questioned him, and thereupon demanded a robe from him. The monk immediately gave it to her; after giving her the robe, he wore worn-out robes himself. The Buddha said: "If she were a relative, she would know whether he has \[enough\] or not; because she is not a relative, she directly took it and left." Furthermore, one fears that because of this, various improper acts would arise. Therefore, giving a robe to an unrelated nun, perceiving her as a relative or perceiving her as \[belonging to\] the other six assemblies, is a pāyattika. If she is a relative and one perceives her as unrelated or as \[belonging to\] the other six assemblies, giving her a robe is a duṣkṛta.
