> Text distinguishing heavy and light property from the third fascicle of the Vinayamātṛkā: 'If a deceased monk has male or female slaves, he should release them and let them go. If he does not release them, they should be made to serve as monastic pure people (kalpikāras). Elephants, horses, camels, cattle, and donkeys are given to the permanent saṃgha to transport goods. If this deceased monk had interest-bearing property held outside, monastic pure people of the monastery should be sent to search for and retrieve it; once obtained, it enters the permanent saṃgha. As for items made of iron that are distributable: iron hooks, iron bracelets, drills, axes, cauldrons, five-foot knives, hooked needle cases, knives, shears, iron staffs, incense burners, umbrellas, umbrella shafts, and incense canisters—such items are known at large. Large copper nails, bracelets, drills, and copper items are in name and quantity all treated like iron. If there was a privately owned monastery along with its fields, estates, and fruit trees, as well as elephants, horses, camels, cattle, donkeys, down to couches, beds, jars, vases, and life-supporting implements, all likewise belong to the cāturdiśa-saṃgha. If outside the cāturdiśa-saṃgha \[quarters\] large halls, small halls, or chambers were erected, the saammukhībhūta-saṃgha may not distribute the items contained within them; they also belong to the cāturdiśa-saṃgha. The sūtras and vinayas possessed by a deceased monk while alive should be distributed to those capable of chanting and reciting them. If not reached in the distribution, the saammukhībhūta-saṃgha should give them to those capable of chanting and reciting them; these items should not be sold for distribution. Robes, pātras, niṣīdanas, needle cushions, fine cotton cloths, sutra bags, woolen garments whose hair is three finger-widths deep, umbrellas, and razors—these are termed distributable items. The rest are the same as in the Vinaya.'
