> Regarding "in reliance on the samādhi of the totality bases, performing contemplations of blue, etc.": what are called "totality bases" are precisely the ten totality bases: earth, water, fire, wind, blue, yellow, red, white, space, and consciousness make ten. That is, using meditative absorption and wisdom to contemplate these ten kinds as vast, pervasive, boundless, and wholly ubiquitous; hence they are named the "ten totality bases". One should know that the first four are the supported matter, while the subsequent four are the supporting matter. In order to abandon the marks of matter, one universally contemplates the mark of space; in order to abandon the mark of space, one universally contemplates the mark of consciousness. If the contemplative practice of the ten totality bases is accomplished, then the eight liberations are perfected.
