> Regarding "meaning being free from desire regarding the stage of pervasive tranquility, but not yet free from higher desire, etc.": "pervasive tranquility" refers to the third dhyāna, the third heaven. "Desire" is the general name for the afflictions of the nine stages in the three realms. The meaning is that one has already become free from the desires of the third dhyāna; although one still has the afflictions of the fourth dhyāna, the afflictions of the third dhyāna and below are already absent, and the functioning of suffering and pleasure does not function at all; the unconditioned that is obtained is named "imperturbable".
