However, previously, in terms of its concordance with subtle discrimination and attachment to phenomena, according to that doctrinal perspective it was called intention (manas); here, regarding its concordance with coarse afflictions that give rise to views and craving, it is called mental consciousness (manovijñāna) from the perspective of what arises from the former.
