The commentary says: The answer below has two parts: first, answering about faith; second, explaining cultivating practice. In faith there are two parts: first, the outline; second, the explanation. This is the first. Among the four, the first is faith in the cause of attaining Buddhahood, because tathatā and Buddha-nature are the cause of Buddhahood. Next is faith that from the cause one will attain the fruit of Buddhahood, meaning that the Buddha's merits are accomplished based on this nature. Next is faith that there are practices for attaining Buddhahood, because relying on the practice of the Dharma jewel one will attain Buddhahood.
