Text
1.1
Upholding the precepts purely like the full moon,
Body and speech are bright and spotless, without defilement.
Pure and harmonious, free of disputes and contention,
Only then may one join in the poṣadha.
1.2
Verse on Receiving Water
1.3
The water of eight merits purifies all defilements;
Poured over the palms, it removes dirt, leaving the mind untainted.
We uphold the prohibitive precepts without flaw or transgression;
May all sentient beings likewise do so.
1.4
Verse Recited on Bathing the Tallies
1.5
Arhats and noble monks assemble,
The ordinary saṃgha is in harmony.
Bathed in fragrant water, made pure,
The poṣadha delivers sentient beings.
1.6
Verse Recited on Receiving Fragrant Water
1.7
Fragrant water bathes and cleanses all defilements;
The Dharma-body is fully endowed, enriched by the five attributes.
Wisdom shines completely, liberation is fulfilled;
All living beings assemble together, harmonised with the Dharma realm.
1.8
Verse Recited on Circulating the Incense
1.9
The incense of morality, the incense of concentration, the incense of liberation,
Forms a platform of radiant clouds pervading the worlds.
Offered to the immeasurable Buddhas of the ten directions,
May all who see and hear it be universally perfumed and realise quiescence.
1.10
Verse Recited on Receiving the Tally
1.11
The adamantine, unhindered tally of liberation,
Difficult […] fruit.
I now receive it reverently upon my head with joy;
May all sentient beings likewise do so.
1.12
Verse on Returning the Tally
1.13
Endowed with purity, I received this tally;
Endowed with purity, I return this tally.
Firmly upholding the prohibitive precepts without flaw or transgression;
May all sentient beings likewise do so.
1.14
Sublime Verse on Purity
1.15
Pure like the full moon,
Purity is fitting for the poṣadha.
Purifying the karma of body and speech,
Only then may one join in the poṣadha.
1.16
Verse Recited at the Conclusion of the Poṣadha
1.17
The appearance of the Buddhas in the world is the supreme joy;
Hearing the Dharma and practising it with delight is joy;
The harmony of the great assembly in quiescence is joy;
Sentient beings being freed from suffering and attaining peace is joy.
