> At that time, there was a bodhisattva in the assembly named Contemplating Impermanence, who rose from his seat, bared his right shoulder, placed his right knee on the ground, joined his palms with fingers clasped, and addressed the Buddha, saying: "Excellent, excellent, Bhagavat! You have spoken this meaning so well! The true Dharma of the Buddhas is inconceivable, beyond what arhats and pratyekabuddhas can reach. The fundamental non-existence of true nature cannot be exhausted. The Tathāgata descends in physical form, emerging in one and entering in another, transforming without limit—sometimes as broken-body śarīra, sometimes as whole-body śarīra, sometimes hidden and not appearing, sometimes circulating throughout the world, sometimes manifesting the realm of a single Buddha, sometimes manifesting the realms of several Buddhas. His ṛddhipāda transformations and power in the Way are sovereign, exceedingly rare and extraordinary! Like the realm of space, it is permanent yet impermanent, impermanent yet impermanent, abiding yet non-abiding, non-abiding yet non-abiding, undergoing non-singular changes. I wish to hear from the Tathāgata an explanation of the meaning of permanence and impermanence. As I am today in the nine bhūmis, is this permanent? Or is it impermanent?"
