> "Hearing this, Śakra was despondent and displeased: 'These words of the asura prove that I have violated the precept against taking what is not given. I would rather uphold the prohibition and not commit theft.' He immediately returned the maidens. At that time, the asura king offered the maiden he most revered to Śakra, king of the gods; Śakra, king of the gods, in turn presented delicious amṛta to the asura. The asuras and the gods lived in harmony and together cultivated goodness: not killing, not stealing, not engaging in sexual misconduct, not lying, not drinking alcohol, not using fragrant flowers, oils, and powders, and not eating at improper times; and they upheld the Tathāgata's Dharma of the three refuges.
