> “The perfectly enlightened ones of the past
> Left behind teachings to deliver sentient beings,
> Distinguishing the roots of humans
> As superior, middling, and inferior, wondrous and subtle.
> The most victorious Buddhas of the present
> Know the future through their luminous wisdom,
> Eliminating the fetters before and after,
> Shining alone like the brilliance of the sun.
> For sentient beings practicing austerities,
> Both two-footed and four-footed,
> They expound the Dharma of ambrosia,
> Filling them and dispelling all conceptualizations.
> The devas practice the ten virtues,
> From one to twenty-two,
> From the higher heavens down to the asuras,
> According to the gradations of their merit.
> The Tathāgata is endowed with all the marks,
> Practicing good without flaw or stain;
> Accumulating merit like Mount Sumeru,
> His pure conduct is undefiled.
> If someone gives rise to slander,
> Saying that the Buddha is not the true path,
> Upon death they fall into the Avīci hell,
> Where no Buddha can save them.
> Their breath is foul and reeking,
> Their limbs and joints feverish with affliction;
> Their evil thoughts blaze fiercely,
> All owing to the sin of slander.
> Practicing good and cultivating merit,
> The consciousness deity heads toward good destinies;
> Like a person who enters a pool to bathe,
> Clean and free from dust and defilement.
> Arhats and pratyekabuddhas
> Have extinguished birth never to arise again;
> Free from thinking of ‘I’ and ‘mine’ in the body,
> They have departed from the sufferings of the five destinies.
> The Dharma practiced originally by the Buddha
> Received the confirmation of all the Buddhas;
> Now attaining status as the Honoured One among humans,
> He is thus designated the Deva of Devas.”
