“You monks, when receiving food and drink, you should treat it as taking medicine. Toward the fine and the foul, do not give rise to increase or decrease \[in desire\], but merely sustain the body to dispel hunger and thirst. Just as a bee gathering from a flower takes only its nectar without harming its color or fragrance, so too should the monk: receive the offerings of others to dispel your own afflictions, and do not seek much and thereby ruin their wholesome mind. Just as a wise person gauges the strength of an ox to see how much it can bear, and does not exceed the measure so as to exhaust its strength.
