> There are nine kinds of anāgāmin: the anāgāmin who definitely enters nirvāṇa in the present life, the anāgāmin who enters nirvāṇa in the intermediate state, the anāgāmin who enters nirvāṇa upon being reborn, the anāgāmin who enters nirvāṇa with exertion, the anāgāmin who enters nirvāṇa without exertion, the anāgāmin who enters nirvāṇa by moving upward, the anāgāmin who enters nirvāṇa upon reaching Akaniṣṭha, the anāgāmin who enters nirvāṇa upon reaching formless absorption, and the bodily witness anāgāmin who is practicing toward arhatship. Regarding the nine kinds of fetters of the form and formless realms, with the vajra-samādhi of the ninth unhindered path he shatters all fetters, and with the ninth path of liberation and the knowledge of exhaustion he cultivates all roots of goodness; this is named the fruit of arhatship.
