Atha kho sabhiyo paribbājako bhagavato pādesu sirasā nipatitvā bhagavantaṃ etadavoca:
Then the wanderer Sabhiya bowed with his head to the Buddha’s feet and said,

esāhaṃ bhagavantaṃ saraṇaṃ gacchāmi dhammañca bhikkhusaṅghañca;
I go for refuge to the Buddha, to the teaching, and to the mendicant Saṅgha.
3.6.52.4
labheyyāhaṃ, bhante, bhagavato santike pabbajjaṃ, labheyyaṃ upasampadan”ti.
Sir, may I receive the going forth, the ordination in the Buddha’s presence?”
