> "Wide-jawed, hard-hearted, casting off shame, / stern-faced, evil of nature.
> Ever since they called the sun a gazelle, / it has risen upon its face only in terror;
> and the onyx-eyed gazelles out of fear of death / offer it shame through their eyes so that it may grant them peace."
> The lion-valiant dog, from greed of running, snapped its chain, and with sickle-like claws tore the heads of prey like straw;
> and at the time of attack it leapt like lightning; at the moment of its leap, the swift-paced wind could not overtake its dust;
> and the celestial lion, out of awe at the impact of its arrow-sharp fangs, concealed its claws within its paw;
> and Taurus and Aries fell headlong from the path of the Milky Way; and the high-flying falcon, like an arrow shot from the thumb ring of a high-bowed archer, flew in the air;
> and with the strike of crescent-like talons, brought down the head of the bird from the height of heaven to the surface of the earth;
> and with a lancet-like beak drew blood from the life-vein of the birds of the air;
> and with the impact of its wind-swift wings blew the life of various kinds of birds to the wind. Verse:
