> he might fashion a bolster of silk and brocade. For the green robe of exaltation is put on by one who, like
> the luminary of the heavens, has raised a hundred thousand lamps and torches of light in the courtyard of his pure breast, and who, like
> the surface of a sword blade, is adorned and ornamented from head to foot with the bright jewels of detachment; who, like the Encircling Ocean,
> embraces this heap of dust like a Sufi and moistens it, and who, after the manner of a water-lily, casts his prayer-rug upon the face of the water through swimming the seas of gnosis;
> and if the tyrants of realms of injustice trample his head and body like grass beneath cruelty
> and enmity, out of utmost endurance he does not raise his head or turn aside from the path of patience; and if, like a violet,
> under the assault of the blast of endless oppression and cruelty they double over his head and stature, like the lily he restrains his tongue from the liberty
> of reciting sorrowful stories and complaint-filled narratives, keeping it mute. When he saw me like a fish out of water, in agony and
> distress, prompted by perfect compassion he inquired into the circumstances of my condition. I recounted the manner of my departure,
> the event of the ship sinking, and my endurance of the boundless afflictions of the sea, word by word, before him.
