He acquired a thorough knowledge of Islamic tradition under Sayyid Rafi'u-d-dīn the traditionist and has now dwelt for about fifty years in the quarter named after the above mentioned Pīr in Agra, engaged in teaching those branches of knowledge which call for the exercise of the reasoning faculty as well as those which depend upon the memory. Many able and ready scholars have sat at his feet and have gone out into the world (with the fruits of his teaching). Both I and Miyan Kamalu-d-din Husain, just mentioned, shared the benefits of being taught by this great man.
