|| Eight Verses to the Narmadā

### [1](https://indike.org/pramana/in.darsana.advaita.stotra.other.narmadastaka~en-mt.1)

Beautiful with the break of waves rolling down into the ocean along with drops of spray, / accompanied by waters that consume the sins accumulated by enemies, / granting armor that dispels the fear of the messengers of the End-Maker, of Death, and of ghosts— / O Goddess Narmadā, I bow to your lotus feet. || 1

### [2](https://indike.org/pramana/in.darsana.advaita.stotra.other.narmadastaka~en-mt.2)

Bestowing a divine state upon the wretched fish immersed in your waters, / leader of all sacred fords, taking away the burden of heaps of impurities in the Kali age, / giving joy to the assembly of fine fish, tortoises, crocodiles, and cakravāka birds— / O Goddess Narmadā, I bow to your lotus feet. || 2

### [3](https://indike.org/pramana/in.darsana.advaita.stotra.other.narmadastaka~en-mt.3)

Whose earth is cleansed of sins by the flood of your immense and deep waters, / roaring and cleaving the mountain of distress as an enemy to all transgressions, / providing an abode to the son of Mṛkaṇḍu during the great dread of the dissolution of the world— / O Goddess Narmadā, I bow to your lotus feet. || 3

### [4](https://indike.org/pramana/in.darsana.advaita.stotra.other.narmadastaka~en-mt.4)

My fear born of rebirth in the ocean of existence departed the very moment your water was beheld, / \[water\] ever served by the son of Mṛkaṇḍu, Śaunaka, and the enemy of Asuras; / granting armor against the sorrow of the ocean of worldly existence— / O Goddess Narmadā, I bow to your lotus feet. || 4

### [5](https://indike.org/pramana/in.darsana.advaita.stotra.other.narmadastaka~en-mt.5)

Worshiped by countless hundreds of thousands of Kinnaras, gods, Asuras, and others, / warbled over by hundreds of thousands of serene birds on the banks of your easily observed waters, / granting joy to Vasiṣṭha, the noble Pippalāda, Kardama, and others— / O Goddess Narmadā, I bow to your lotus feet. || 5

### [6](https://indike.org/pramana/in.darsana.advaita.stotra.other.narmadastaka~en-mt.6)

Held in their minds by bee-like sages such as Sanatkumāra, Nāciketa, Kaśyapa, Atri, / and by bee-like devotees such as Nārada; / granting bliss to the deeds of the Sun, the Moon, Rantideva, and the King of the Gods— / O Goddess Narmadā, I bow to your lotus feet. || 6

### [7](https://indike.org/pramana/in.darsana.advaita.stotra.other.narmadastaka~en-mt.7)

A mighty arrow against hundreds of thousands of unseen, marked, and targeted sins, / thereafter granting enjoyment and liberation to the web of living beings, / bestowing armor that leads to the personal abode of Viriñci, Viṣṇu, and Śaṅkara— / O Goddess Narmadā, I bow to your lotus feet. || 7

### [8](https://indike.org/pramana/in.darsana.advaita.stotra.other.narmadastaka~en-mt.8)

Ah, its sound is borne and heard on the bank born of the hair of the Great Lord, / among Kirātas, Sūtas, Brahmins, learned scholars, rogues, and actors alike; / dispelling the torment of endless sin, bestowing joy upon all creatures— / O Goddess Narmadā, I bow to your lotus feet. || 8

### [9](https://indike.org/pramana/in.darsana.advaita.stotra.other.narmadastaka~en-mt.9)

Those who always recite these eight verses to the Narmadā constantly at the three junctions of the day / never enter an evil state of existence; / obtaining easily the glory of the abode of the Great Lord, which is difficult \[for others\] to attain in the body, / those men do not, upon rebirth, gaze upon Raurava hell. || 9
