> Therein, 'Being alone, dear boy, was this in the beginning' is the introductory statement. 'All this has this \[Brahman\] as its self; that is the truth; that is the self; you are that, Śvetaketu' is the concluding statement. Their uniformity of form in having Brahman as their object is one mark. The repeated assertion 'you are that' is repetition. Being uncognizable through other means of valid cognition is novelty. Knowledge of everything through the knowledge of the one is the fruit. The five accounts of creation, maintenance, dissolution, entrance, and control are the eulogistic passages. The analogies of clay and so forth are the intelligible reasonings. Therefore, through these marks, it must be determined that the Vedāntas have as their purport the self as Brahman whose nature is eternally pure, enlightened, and liberated. In this way, because the true nature of the self taught in the Upaniṣads does not appear in the 'I'-experience, it is established that that experience has for its object a superimposed self.
