Towards the roaring one ('nadam'), the sound-maker, the Puruṣa, the lord of your moistening ('odatīnām') waters—that is, waters belonging to you—you seek ('iṣudhyasi'), you become the lord. The repetition of 'nadam' means: in creation after creation, you become the lord towards the supreme spirit stretched forth. Of the swift ('yoyuvatīnām')—those having the habit of flowing, floating in the sky; of the unslayable ('aghnyānām')—unburnable in the form of smoke, or undecaying in the form of semen; of the milk-cows ('dhenūnām')—the nourishers of the universe, from the verbal root 'dhinu puṣṭau' (to nourish). From the scripture: 'He plays with them through the sound,' or: towards Vāyu, the lord of the milk-cows, the cows that sprinkle milk, that move from place to place, that are unslayable—unfit to be killed—you seek, you become the lord; \[for\] there is the scripture: 'Vāyu indeed is the lord of cows', and because of the word 'dhenu'. Or: towards Vāyu, the lord of speech—which moistens ('odatīnām') through devotion, which swiftly reveals the nature of the Self exceedingly ('yoyuvatīnām'), which is eternal ('aghnyānām'), and which nourishes dharma, wealth, and desire ('dhenūnām')—you become the lord.
from such scriptures as: “One should meditate upon Speech as a cow; her four teats are the exclamation svāhā, the exclamation vaṣaṭ, the exclamation hanta, and the exclamation svadhā. The gods live upon her two teats, the exclamation svāhā and the exclamation vaṣaṭ; human beings \[live upon\] the exclamation hanta; the ancestors \[live upon\] the exclamation svadhā. Her bull is Prāṇa; her calf is Mind.” (2)
