The union of pure consciousness with primary matter is for the sake of perception: pure consciousness perceives primordial nature up to its effects, the gross elements, beginning with the great principle. Primary matter's union with pure consciousness is for this purpose: for the sake of isolation. And that union of both should be viewed as like that of the lame and the blind. Just as one person is lame and another is blind, and both, traveling with great difficulty in a forest, having been abandoned by their companions due to an attack made by robbers, wandered by fate here and there, and by their own movement they came together; then, through mutual trust in their words, their union took place for the purpose of walking and for the purpose of seeing: the lame person was mounted upon the shoulders of the blind one. In this way, the blind person walks along the path pointed out by the lame person mounted on his body, and the lame person is mounted on the shoulders of the blind person. Thus in pure consciousness there is the capacity to see, like the lame person, but not action; in primary matter there is the capacity for action, like the blind person, but not the capacity to see. Or just as of those two, the lame and the blind, there will be separation when their purpose is accomplished, having reached their desired destination, so too primary matter, having accomplished the release of pure consciousness, desists, and pure consciousness, having perceived primary matter, attains isolation; when their purpose is accomplished, there will be their separation. Furthermore: "creation is effected thereby"—effected by that union; "effected thereby" means creation, origination. Just as from the union of woman and man there is the birth of a child, so from the union of primary matter and pure consciousness there is the emergence of creation.
