76.1
Then the sons of Daśaratha, Haladhara and Nārāyaṇa, possessing great splendour, / entered the city of Laṅkā, surrounded by horses, elephants, chariots, and warriors.
76.2
With the sounds of drums, kettledrums, bherīs, jhallarīs, kāhalas, and mṛdaṅgas, / and with shouts of 'Victory! Victory!', nothing else could be heard falling upon the ear.
76.3
Gazing upon Padma accompanied by Lakṣmaṇa on the royal road, / the citizens could not have their fill of looking, jostling against one another.
76.4
The windows of the mansions were densely filled with Vidyādhara women; / looking forth, they shone exceedingly with their lotus faces.
76.5
One female friend said to another: "This one whose eyes are like the petals of a fine white lotus, / who resides in Sītā’s heart, is Rāma, equal to Indra in majesty.
76.6
He who possesses the lustre of a blue lotus, with blue-lotus eyes and mighty arms, / the master of the discus jewel—look, my friend, that is Lakṣmaṇa!
76.7
Here is the lord of Kiṣkindhī, Virādhita, the son of Janaka, Nīla, / Aṅga, prince Aṅgada, Hanumat, and Jāmbavat."
76.8
Thus Padma and the heroes, hearing the talk of the people, / moved forward towards Sītā, covering the royal avenue.
76.9
Then Padma asked a noble chowrie-bearer standing nearby: / "Good woman, tell me quickly, where is my wife residing?"
76.10
She said: "Master, here is the delightful palace named Puṣpāharī; / in the midst of the lotus garden there your wedded wife resides."
76.11
Then, proceeding in due course, Rāma arrived at Sītā's dwelling; / dismounting from his elephant, he saw his beloved with unkempt body.
76.12
Slender-limbed by nature, her body further tormented by separation, / Sītā, seeing her beloved, lowered her face, felt shy, and wept.
76.13
Setting aside grief at the reunion with her beloved, the daughter of Janaka, / her limbs bristling with the thrill of joy, became transformed in that very moment.
76.14
As Śacī approaches the lord of the gods, or Rati the god armed with flower-arrows, / or Subhadrā Bharata, so Sītā, filled with deep love, embraced her husband.
76.15
Clasped for a moment with agitation by Rāma, the daughter of Janaka / had her heart and limbs soothed, as if sprinkled with essence of sandalwood.
76.16
Clinging to her beloved's neck, held in his embrace, the daughter of Janaka was joyful, / slender-limbed like a golden creeper entwining a wishing tree.
76.17
Seeing Lord Rāma united with Sītā, the gods standing in the sky / showered fragrant rain of flowers, mixed with perfumed water.
76.18
"Well done, well done!" the gods said, praising Sītā's stainless conduct, / holding very firm minor vows, her heart unshakeable like Mount Meru.
76.19
Then Lakṣmīdhara performed veneration at Sītā's feet, / and she too embraced that prince with intense affection.
76.20
She said: "Brother! That which was declared long ago by the supreme śramaṇas, / all that has been heard, experienced, and seen directly and openly by us.
76.21
You have truly become the master of the earth, the vessel of the majesty of a Cakradhara; / and this elder [brother] of yours has attained the status of a Baladeva."
76.22
Delighted, Bhāmaṇḍala bowed at the feet of the king [Padma] who shared the same womb, / and he too was embraced with affection by the joyful Sītā.
76.23
Sugrīva, the son of Pavana, Nala, Nīla, and also Aṅgada, / Candrābha, Marucca, Virādhita, and Jāmbavat,
76.24
and these and many other Vidyādhara kings, uttering their own names, / addressed Sītā and bowed in order of status.
76.25
They brought ornaments and decorations, various excellent fragrant unguents, / garments, and heavenly flowers.
76.26
With heads bowed, the great warriors said to her: "Gentle lady! You are Lakṣmī herself, no doubt; / disdaining matchless sensual pleasure, you served Halāyudha of spotless fame."
76.27
Here ends the seventy-sixth chapter in the Paümacariya, titled 'The Manner of the Reunion with Sītā'.
