For living beings, pudgalas are accumulated through food, pudgalas are accumulated through the gross body, and pudgalas are accumulated through the physical frame; those pudgalas transform in such and such ways. There are no karmas made by the non-conscious, long-lived Śramaṇa! In improper postures, in bad beds, and in bad resting places, those pudgalas transform in such and such ways. There are no karmas made by the non-conscious, long-lived Śramaṇa! Sickness results in his destruction, volition results in his destruction, and death results in his destruction; those pudgalas transform in such and such ways. There are no karmas made by the non-conscious, long-lived Śramaṇa! For that reason, Gautama, it is said: 'Karmas are made by the conscious for living beings, not made by the non-conscious.'
