22.0.822

1–2. Tāla and single-seeded [plants], 3. many-seeded [plants], 4. clusters, 5. shrubs, and 6. creepers:
these are six groups of ten, making sixty uddeśakas.

22.1.823

In Rājagṛha, up to: he spoke thus: "Now, Venerable Sir, those souls who pass into existence as the roots of tāla, tamāla, takkalī, tetalī, śāla, sarala, sārakalyāṇa, jāvatī, ketakī, kadalī, kandali, carmavṛkṣa, bhūjavṛkṣa, hiṅguvṛkṣa, lavaṅgavṛkṣa, pūgaphala, khajjūrī, and nālikerī—from where, Venerable Sir, do those souls take rebirth?" In this manner here too, ten uddeśakas beginning with root are to be stated just like [those] of the śāli [group], with this difference: in these five uddeśakas—root, bulb, stem, bark, and branch—a god is not reborn; [they have] three leśyās; the lifespan duration is minimally an antarmuhūrta, maximally ten thousand years. In the upper five uddeśakas a god is reborn; [they have] four leśyās; the lifespan duration is minimally an antarmuhūrta, maximally a few years. Body size in root and bulb is a few dhanuses; in stem, bark, and branch, a few gavyūtis; in sprout and leaf, a few dhanuses; in flower, a few cubits; in fruit and seed, a few finger-breadths; for all of them, minimally an innumerableth part of a finger-breadth. The rest is just as for the śāli [group]. Thus these ten uddeśakas [are completed].

22.2.824

"Now, Venerable Sir, those souls who pass into existence as the roots of nimba, amba, jambu, kośamba, śāla, aṅkolla, pīlu, śelu, śallakī, mocakī, māluka, bakula, palāśa, karañja, putrajīvaka, ariṣṭa, vibhītaka, harītakī, bhallātaka, umbarabhariya, kṣīriṇī, dhātakī, priyāla, pūtikā, nimbāraga, śleṣmātaka, prāsikā, śiṃśapā, asana, punnāga, nāgavṛkṣa, śrīparṇī, and aśoka?" In this manner, ten uddeśakas beginning with root are to be stated completely just like the tāla group.

22.2.825

"Now, Venerable Sir, those souls who pass into existence as the roots of asthika, tinduka, badara, kapittha, āmrātaka, mātuliṅga, bilva, āmalaka, panasa, dāḍima, aśvattha, udumbara, vaṭa, nyagrodha, nandīvṛkṣa, pippalī, saptarī, plakṣavṛkṣa, kākodumbarī, kustumbarī, devadālī, tilaka, lakuca, chatraugha, śirīṣa, saptaparṇa, dadhiparṇa, lodhra, dhava, candana, arjuna, nīpa, kuṭaja, and kadamba—from where, Venerable Sir, do those souls take rebirth?" In this manner here too, ten uddeśakas beginning with root are to be understood similar to the tāla group, up to seed.

22.2.826

"Now, Venerable Sir, of vāiṅgaṇī, allakī, poṇḍakī—thus it is to be understood according to the verses in the Prajñāpanā up to gañja, pāṭalā, dāsī, and aṅkolla—those souls who pass into existence as the roots of these?" In this manner here too, ten uddeśakas beginning with root are to be understood up to seed completely just like the bamboo group.

22.2.827

"Now, Venerable Sir, of seriyaka, navamālikā, koraṇṭaka, bandhujīvaka, manojñā—according to the verses in the first chapter of the Prajñāpanā up to navanītikā, kunda, and mahājāti—those souls who pass into existence as the roots of these?" In this manner here too, ten uddeśakas beginning with root [are to be stated] completely just like [those] of the śāli [group].

22.2.828

"Now, Venerable Sir, of pūsaphalī, kāliṅgī, tumbī, trapuṣī, elāvālukī—thus the words are to be divided according to the Prajñāpanā verses as in the tāla group up to dadhiphollakī, kākalī, mokalī, and arkabombī—those souls who pass into existence as the roots of these?" In this manner here too, ten uddeśakas beginning with root are to be stated just like the tāla group, with this difference: in the fruit uddeśaka, the body size is minimally an innumerableth part of a finger-breadth, maximally a few dhanuses; lifespan duration everywhere is minimally an antarmuhūrta, maximally a few years; the rest is just that. Thus in all six groups there are sixty uddeśakas.
