Four on celestial abodes, and four are on capitals,
[one on] the inhabitant of hell, and [one on] lesyās: [these are] the ten uddeśakas in the fourth śataka.
4.1.208
In the city of Rājagṛha, and so forth, he said thus:
"Venerable Sir, how many world-guardians of Īśāna, the Indra of gods, king of gods, have been declared?"
"Gautama! Four world-guardians have been declared, namely: Soma, Yama, Vaiśramaṇa, and Varuṇa."
"Venerable Sir, how many celestial abodes of these world-guardians have been declared?"
"Gautama! Four celestial abodes have been declared, namely: Sumanas, Sarvatobhadra, Valgu, and Suvalgu."
"Where, Venerable Sir, is the great celestial abode named Sumanas of the great king Soma, the world-guardian of Īśāna, the Indra of gods, king of gods, declared to be?"
"Gautama! In the continent of Jambūdvīpa, to the north of Mount Mandara, above this Ratnaprabhā earth, and so forth, the heaven named Īśāna is declared to be.
There, and so forth, five crest-abodes are declared, namely: Aṅkāvataṃsaka, Sphaṭikāvataṃsaka, Ratnāvataṃsaka, Jātarūpāvataṃsaka, and in the middle, Īśānāvataṃsaka.
To the east of that great celestial abode Īśānāvataṃsaka, traversing horizontally innumerable thousands of yojanas, there the great celestial abode named Sumanas of the great king Soma, the world-guardian of Īśāna, the Indra of gods, king of gods, is declared to be, measuring twelve and a half hundred thousand yojanas. Just as was the account of Śakra in the third śataka, so also for Īśāna up to the worship ceremony is completed.
For each celestial abode of all four world-guardians there is a chapter; for all four celestial abodes there are four chapters without omission, except for the difference in lifespan duration:"
4.1.209
The first two are less by a third part [of two palyopamas]; of Dhanada it is two palyopamas;
Varuṇa has two [palyopamas] with a third part; of the offspring-gods it is one palyopama.
4.1.210
Concerning the capitals as well, four chapters are to be recited, up to 'of such great supernatural power' up to the great king Varuṇa.
4.9.211
"Does an inhabitant of hell, Venerable Sir, get reborn among the inhabitants of hell? Does a non-inhabitant of hell get reborn among the inhabitants of hell?"
Here the third chapter of the section on lesyā [in the Prajñāpanā] is to be recited, up to 'cognitions'.
4.10.212
"Is it certainly so, Venerable Sir, that a black lesyā, upon meeting a blue lesyā, transforms again and again into that form, into that color, into that smell, into that taste, into that touch?"
"Yes, Gautama! A black lesyā, upon meeting a blue lesyā, transforms again and again into that form, into that color, into that smell, into that taste, into that touch. In this way, the fourth chapter of the section on lesyā from the Prajñāpanā itself is to be understood up to:"
4.10.213
Transformation, color, taste, smell, pure, unwholesome, defiled, hot,
motion, transformation, space-points, occupancy, class, state, and numerical comparison.
4.10.214
"Truly so, Venerable Sir! Truly so, Venerable Sir!"
