> \[19\] As follows: Now, the ornament of the Vṛṣṇi dynasty—which is praised by all the Vedas, Purāṇas, and other texts—named Śrī Devamīḍha, the abode of supreme virtues, resided in Mathurā. And that crest-jewel of noble men had two wives: the first belonged to the second caste \[Kṣatriya\], and the second belonged to the third caste \[Vaiśya\]. And to them were born first two sons named appropriately in that order: Śūra and Parjanya. Among them, from Śūra arose Śrī Vasudeva and others. But glorious Parjanya, according to the rule that 'the offspring of mixed caste follows the mother', entered into the condition of a Vaiśya, brought the sovereignty of cows under his control, and took up residence in Bṛhadvana alone. And from his very childhood he worshiped at the sight of a brāhmaṇa, showered gifts fulfillingly upon desires, loved the Vaiṣṇava Veda, acted strictly according to the Veda, and worshiped Hari throughout his life. His mother's lineage too was supremely praiseworthy as the ornament of the Vaiśyas spread across all directions. Being spoken of by the virtuous as a special class of Ābhīra, it possessed true distinction.
