> Then, having temporarily refrained from returning due to some inward hesitation, remembering the divine sage's words portending future līlā, controlling that very \[longing\] and enduring it, but upon hearing this \[message\] focusing his mind once more on the conviction that he must certainly go due to his intense eagerness, he—the life of Vraja—frankly said to his elder brother in private: "Noble brother! I have also submitted this earlier: royalty does not appeal to me; rather, Vṛndāvana alone brings about an abundance of joy for me."

> Hearing this and exchanging glances among themselves, an elder of the Yadus named Vikadru spoke amid mounting agitation: "Previously, Kaṃsa was our sole destroyer. Relying on his power, the others were not even taken into account by us. But when he was slain by you, countless others like him arose, since Jarāsandha and others, whose hostility is fixed due to their connection with him, number in the millions with millions of weapons drawn. Therefore, the Yadus, whose survival and livelihood depend solely on taking shelter of you, should personally be properly settled or established by you.

Furthermore, someone now appears to be a causer of harm to them; therefore, you should act as is appropriate. What more need be said to hint at the core of the matter to one who defeats enemies of the virtuous and is supremely conversant with dharma?"

> Then, hearing these unassailable words, fully restraining his speech and turning away as if disheartened, he went with Śrī Rāma to the lawful residence of Śrī Vasudeva and Devakī and made this request before the two of them: "May my venerable parents graciously grant their attention to give us permission!"

> Then, hearing this, the two fell completely silent. For earlier, after Ugrasena's coronation, upon hearing the flow of his words, they had already turned pale—words which have indeed been unswervingly recorded even by Vaiśampāyana and others in the Harivaṃśa and other texts, as shown: 'I am that very one among the cows,' and so forth. And both of them knew his turn of mind: that once he goes to Vraja and gains their company, he forgets everything else.

> Then, after a long time, the two said: "Then we two have been abandoned by you both, who were like the long-sought breath of our lives!" Thereupon, upon reflection, Akrūra's mother made this harsh remark: "If there is coming and going of the people of Vraja here, then Vraja itself is present here; so why is his going restricted?"
> — English (machine translation) (machine translation)

### [1.35.19](https://indike.org/pramana/in.lit.campu.krsna.gopalacampu.1.35.19)

> That being the case, Rāma and the unconquered \[Kṛṣṇa\], speaking together in private with careful words, clearly decided in absolute seclusion: "This was submitted by us two in all sincerity to the feet of these two elders. But it has been rejected by them out of concern for their own misfortune; and disobeying a guru's order would not lead to auspiciousness. For to obey the order \[of his father\], that best of the Raghus, who observed supreme decorum, gave up even a vast kingdom and boldly plunged with his young wife into the forest, fearsome though it was with the activities of demons. And the consequence of transgressing their command is also considered: Jarāsandha and others, launching investigations through their connection with us, would bring calamity even upon Vraja. Let what is relevant stand, while all other irrelevant considerations are set aside. Therefore, reassuring the feet of the revered king of Vraja \[from here\] is the only proper course at present."

> \[19\] Having thus deliberated and gathered near the king of Vraja's assembly of carts, the two came into his presence. Having approached, bowed down, and properly taken their seats, Rāma himself set forth before that assembly what had taken place.
> \[20\] There Kṛṣṇa himself, looking modestly even upon his father, uncles, and the rest, smiling slightly, spoke the rest of it: "Alas! Taking an occasional voice from the sky as authority, they even hint that I am their Devakī's son, but they do not disclose the motive they hold in their own minds!"

> \[21\] Now, when Madhukaṇṭha had spoken thus far, Snigdhakaṇṭha thought: "In reality, indeed, through His inherent inconceivable potency He appeared in a four-armed form in Śrī Devakī and in a two-armed form in Śrī Yaśodā, by the maxim that 'the cause of an effect is inferred from the effect.' But when Devakī desired to conceal the four-armed form out of fear of Kaṃsa, then the two-armed form that had appeared in Śrī Yaśodā made the four-armed form internal and became manifest there—as was established in the Pūrvacampū (3.102) by reasoning in accord with the Śrīmad-Bhāgavata. But that was not known earlier in either place."

For precisely such a divine result did Garga promise repeatedly at my revered father's feet, and the best of divine sages once told me in private at the edge of the forest. Likewise, my dwelling will consist entirely in serving you, my noble father, and that will be only among the assembly of cowherds, not far away among the Yādavas. For they are our kinsmen, whereas these are our friends—such indeed is the difference between kinsmen and friends. One's dwelling is occasionally among friends for their benefit, but it is always among kinsmen for the joy of seeing them."

Out of Jarāsandha’s persistent hostility arising from his evident connection to Kaṃsa, lakhs of wicked men marked into akṣauhiṇī armies will besiege Mathurā; then it would become truly calamitous. Leaving aside your proximity to us, even your staying far from us could only escape hardship if your connection to us remained undiscovered. For if our connection is known through secret agents, Jarāsandha and his allies, who unlike Kaṃsa are not gripped by fear, will not dispatch their deceitful forces one by one, but rushing forward with whole akṣauhiṇī divisions, they will overrun even all of Vraja. Therefore, even the scent of mutual relation must be concealed by us and by you. And these Yādavas must be removed by me to another fortress; but you, being innumerable, cannot be relocated in that way. > \[39\] Having spoken up to this point, Madhukaṇṭha looked at his brother and said: ‘Here, “O father” is indeed the fitting form of address according to the conception of sonship established within his heart. By “our kinsmen”, and there too by “distressed by affection”, because their affection is limitless, what is intended is his staying precisely with those foremost among them who desire to see him at every moment, and granting the sight of himself at every moment. By “we”, since according to Pāṇini’s rule the plural form of asmad is used for two as well, leaving aside my own account, it is indicated: “both of us shall come”. By “to see”, the status of their sight alone as the ultimate human goal is established for himself as well as for them. Just as in the phrase “even so, O Infinite One, who can comprehend the greatness of your glory?” to be comprehended means to become the object of knowledge, so likewise in an alternate sense “to see” is established as meaning “to become an object of sight”. By the word “friends”, the non-kinsman status of the Yādavas and their status as mere recipients of favors is hinted at. And there, by the use of the gerund in “having brought joy”, since a limit is designated, his subsequent lack of need for them after destroying their fear and other troubles is also indicated.’
