> The fresh juice of kośātakī, devadālī, saptalā, and kāravollikā, the milky juice of arka, and warm water: these act in both ways \[as emetics and purgatives\].
> As for the substances used in enemas in various specific conditions, they are not taught here because they are innumerable;
> one should classify them from the groupings of tastes according to the doṣa and according to the stage of the disease.
> In nearly all \[enemas\], however, the fruits of madana, kuṭaja, jīmūtaka, ikṣvāku, both kośātakīs, trapuṣa, white mustard, and dill;
> the roots of balā, the ten roots, castor, trivṛt, vacā, liquorice, kuṣṭha, rāsnā, punarnavā, and lemon grass;
> and sarala, devadāru, hapuṣā, asafoetida, rasāñjana, the three pungents, patra, cardamom, amṛtā, barley, kola, horse gram, jaggery, salt, curd-water, fermented grain-wash, urine, oleaginous substances, milk, and honey: these are applicable for evacuating enemas.
> Vitiated \[doṣas\] cause discoloration of the skin; they call that skin disease.
> If pitta predominates, however, \[one should cleanse\] with a decoction of the nyagrodha group;
> and after that, one should nourish the patient gradually with meat soups of wild animals.
> For due to excessive emaciation, in a patient with urinary disorder there arises particularly dysuria, pain in the bladder and penis, abdominal swelling, extreme wasting, giddiness, and the like;
> then, to prevent complications and for one who is fit for pacification, one should administer pacification therapies.
> An eyewash \[should be applied\] with rock salt, wet ginger, green vitriol, iron, and copper, finely ground with honey.
