> The yavakā, hāyanā, pāṃsu, vāpya, naiṣadhaka, and other \[varieties of rice\]
> are sweet, hot, heavy, unctuous, sour in vipāka, and provoke śleṣman and pitta.
> From depletion of blood in them (the apālāpa marmans), one dies pale, discolored, and emaciated.
> On both flanks, on the outer part of the hips, on either side of the spine, are the two kukundaras.
> Injury to them causes loss of sensation in the lower body and loss of movement.
> Above the hips and the ears, covering the viscera and attached between the flanks, are the two nitambas.
> Injury to them causes swelling in the lower body, debility, and death.
> Attached below within the flanks, between the hips and flanks, oblique and upward, are the two pārśvasandhis.
> Injury to them causes death due to the abdomen filling with blood.
> And when these are produced, these signs become more distinct.
> \[The faces of\] a crow, an owl, a wolf, a leopard, a cow, a horse, a mongoose, a serpent—
> One should know that it is enveloped by pitta; one should remove it with sweet and bitter enemas.
> Likewise, one whose mind is afflicted with insanity or epilepsy, or who is afflicted by diseases such as fever—
> and especially a wounded person, through the smell of pus, blood, and fat.
