- **Language:** English

### [1.32](https://indike.org/pramana/in.med.samhita.astangasamgraha~en-mt.1.32)

These bodily tissues and food constantly support the body;
the increase of all of them is through homologous things, and decrease through opposite things.
Having pressed out \[the juice of\] any one among lakṣmaṇā, banyan shoots, sahadevā, and viśvadevā in milk, one should herself pour three or four drops into her right nostril with a cotton swab;
into the left if she desires a daughter;
and she must not spit these out.
Likewise, of white bṛhatī pulled up under the asterism Puṣya,
one should administer the juice from the root-paste through the nose.
And likewise, one should administer through the nose an utpala leaf, a kumuda leaf, lakṣmaṇā root, and eight banyan shoots.
One suffering from pain in the bladder, flanks, and head, \[should drink gruel\] prepared with vyāghrī and gokṣura.
Having saturated kuṭaja fruit powder with arka milk for seven days, one should drink it with a decoction of jīvaka;
or one should prepare the kuṭaja fruit powder for emesis with a decoction of any one among madanaphala, jīmūtaka, ikṣvāku, and jīvantī root, or with water containing any one among mustard, madhūka, and salt, or with kṛsarā gruel.
And here it is said:
An auspicious \[child\] is born within, neither defective nor unsuitable.
